Rachel Ray: Delicious SuccessRachel Ray was born Rachael Domenica Ray on August 25, 1968 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in an Italian-American family originating from Sicily. The author of numerous cookbooks and host of several cable television food programs, Ray was born into a family well ensconced in the restaurant business. Her family owned a restaurant in Massachusetts while her mother managed several restaurants in New York. Before beginning her very successful career as a television personality and author Ray worked as a chef in upstate New York. During her time working at a gourmet food store, Ray began teaching cooking course to show people how they could easily prepare meals in a half-hour or under. This class would become the base of her highly successful Food Network program 30 Minute Meals. The classes went live for the first time with a local New York TV station WRGB, a CBS affiliate. She eventually appeared on a spot on the Today Show, which led to a contract with the Food Network. One of the greatest appeals of Ray’s cooking style are the simple recipes which she boasts can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Many of her dishes feature the use of fresh herbs. Ray, not a fan of measuring, prefers to use approximations in her cooking. In addition to her highly successful television career and writing Ray also has her own magazine, known as Everyday with Rachel Ray. She has received an Emmy Award for her Food Network show 30 Minute Meals. While Ray readily admits she has no formal chef’s education, a thorn in the side of many viewers and critics, she has become extremely popular. She was named as one of the most influential people of the year by Time Magazine. |
