Nicolas Cage: An Actor in His Own RightBorn Nicolas Coppola in 1964, Nicolas changed his last name to Cage in order to build his own reputation rather than relying on his famous uncle’s, Francis Ford Coppola, laurels. Beginning in the early 80’s, Nicolas Cage landed several early roles that helped him get a successful start to acting. He had parts in Rumble Fish and Valley Girl in 1983, and then The Cotton Club in 1984. He tends to alternate his characters who are sometimes quite serious and at other times humorous in a dark, quirky sense. From the funny Raising Arizona in 1987, Nicolas Cage could turn around and do the serious Time to Kill in 1990. Other popular movies of his include It Could Happen to You, Leaving Las Vegas that won him the Best Actor Academy Award, Face Off, The Family Man, Gone in Sixty Seconds, and National Treasure among many others. Nicolas Cage already has four more films in pre-production to be started in 2007 and 2008. As successful as his career has been, Nicolas Cage has not had such luck with marriages. Working on his fourth marriage, he has two children. His second son was named after Superman’s Kriptonian name, Kal-el. His interest in comic books will also be noted in the movie Ghost Rider based on the Marvel Comic’s Ghost Rider, which is one of the movies to come out in 2007. This versatile actor has definitely proved that he does not need the family name to make him a star. By working hard on his own, he has certainly made a name for himself in Hollywood. |
