Marilyn Monroe is Still the Glamour Girl

With her dreamy eyes and pouty mouth, who could resist Marilyn Monroe? The world fell in love with this 1950’s sex goddess; and even 80 years after her birth, she holds a place in America’s heart. With a humble and difficult start to life, Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson, but baptized with the last name of Baker since her father was not known. Since her mother had to be sent to a mental institution, Norma Jeane was relegated to foster homes until she moved in with Grace Goddard and her husband in 1937. Sadly, when the couple had to be transferred to the East Coast , they were not able to take Norma Jeane with them. The sixteen year old had to either go back to an orphanage or get married.

Having dated her neighbor Jimmy Dougherty for six months, it was a logical solution so they married in 1942. The two seemed to love one another, but trouble arose when he joined the Merchant Marines and was shipped out. As many women did, Norma Jeane took a job in a factory and just so happened to be photographed for a magazine doing an article on women in the war effort. Within two years of her discovery, Norma Jeane was a model. With acting classes following, she began living her dream until Jimmy came back in 1944.

In 1946, Norma Jeane divorced Jimmy and signed a contract with 20th Century Fox. From there she dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. She started with small roles in movies as does every star until the 1953 movie Niagara shot her into stardom. With two more failed marriages, she continued pursuing her career successfully with 30 completed movies until her death in 1962. Of course, we know the controversy surrounding her death and possible affairs, but Marilyn Monroe still represents beauty and sensuality generations later.
