    Argentina's military forces forcibly depose president Isabel Perón. Isabel Perón was the third wife of popular president Juan Perón. She gained some popularity but never reached the level of popularity of Eva Perón.
  • March 24th 1973 : Pink Floyd: "The Dark Side of the Moon" was released
  • March 24th 1944 : 76 prisoners break out of Stalag Luft III
    76 prisoners begin breaking out of a a German prisoner of war camp names Stalag Luft III in an event that would later be dramatized in the movie "The Great Escape". Of 76 escapees, only three managed to evade capture. 50 were susequently executed.
  • March 24th 1832 : Joseph Smith Jr. tarred and feathered
    Joseph Smith Jr, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement or mormonism, is tarred and feathered by a group of men in Hiram, OH. He was later shot and killed by a mob of 200 in Illinois.
  • March 24th 1603 : James VI of Scotland becomes James I of England
    James VI of Scotland, son of the deposed and executed Mary Queen of Scots, is crowned James I of England after the death of Elizabeth I who had no heirs. He is the first king of the Stuart Line. He is the first to style himself King of Great Britain.
