Lisa Kudrow Deserves her Kudos

Although she plays the dimwitted blonde in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Lisa Kudrow is anything but ditzy. Born in 1963 in California, Kudrow was active throughout high school and obtained a B.S. in psychobiology from Vassar College. Lisa was going to go home and work with her physician father Lee Kudrow, but she was sidetracked into show business by her brother’s friend Jon Lovitz.

Lisa Kudrow’s career began by taking an improv class with Cynthia Szigeti in a group called The Groundlings. Her first role on TV was the dingy blonde waitress Ursula on Mad About You. She went directly from this to the starring role, also a ditzy blonde, in the hit series Friends, which eventually won her an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Her movies include the comedy Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. She won the New York Film Critics Award for her role in The Opposite of Sex. She also was in Wonderland in which she finished all of her scenes in three days of taping.

Lisa Kudrow’s personal life is one unusual for people in the spot light. She married at the age of 31and her husband was her first lover. The Friends writers had to incorporate her real life pregnancy in the storyline by having her be the surrogate for triplets. She is still married to Michael Stern. With a strong support system like this, Lisa Kudrow will probably keep showing us remarkable work.
