Leonardo Dicaprio Starts with a Kick

Literally kicking his way into his name, it is alleged that his mother named him Leonardo after he gave her a sound kick while she was pregnant with him viewing a DaVinci painting. Leonardo Dicaprio, however, didn’t stop there. On his very first TV appearance on Romper Room, three year old Dicaprio was almost ejected from the program because of his misbehavior.

Apparently, Leonardo channeled his energy well as he completed several commercials, bit parts in TV series, and a steady role on Growing Pains. His first big role was in This Boy’s Life in 1993. He was finally noticed by critics who considered him runner-up for Best Supporting Actor. Leonardo didn’t shy away from difficult roles in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, which earned him nominations for an Academy Award and Golden Globe award. He also enjoyed the challenge of playing in The Basketball Diaries, Total Eclipse, and Romeo + Juliet. His reputation was catapulted into fame with the role of Jack in Titanic in 1997.

Since then, Leonardo Dicaprio has had several interesting roles. He tells in an interview in 2004 that his obsessive compulsive disorder flared up while taping The Aviator. The 2002 movies Gangs of New York and Catch Me if You Can earned him over $30 million. Leonardo is working on a movie in South Africa called The Blood Diamond as of spring of 2006. This one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” is sure to provide another master piece in this film.
