Katie Holmes Off to an Early Start

Katie Holmes showed a strength that put her above the rest from the very beginning. Making an early appearance into this world two months before she was due, Katie showed determination as the baby of the family. Unlike many actors who start professional training at a very early age, Holmes only modeled as a teenager but found it unchallenging even though she won many awards in her first competition. With the encouragement from a manager, she went to L.A. to audition for movies and landed a role in The Ice Storm from her 2nd audition as her first professional job.

With this outstanding beginning in her career, Katie Holmes had a bright future. Katie then sent audition tapes to pilot shows hoping to get a television series role. Although she turned down their first call to finish her school play, the producers of Dawson’s Creek recalled her for a live reading and cast her as the character Joey Potter. While working on Dawson’s Creek, Katie Holmes also performed in two movies winning the Breakthrough Female Performance award from MTV in 1999. These supporting roles finally led to a leading role in Abandon in 2002. After six seasons of Dawson’s Creek, Katie could move on to more movies finishing four in 3 years.

Of course, Katie Holmes’ biggest news lately has been her engagement and pregnancy with Tom Cruise. She gave birth to their daughter on April 18, 2006, and named her Suri. There was great discussion surrounding her choice to have a silent birth in accordance to the philosophies of Scientology.
