Heidi Klum: Top Model

Heidi Klum was born June 1, 1973 in bergisch Gladbach, North Rhine-Wesphalia, Germany. At the age of 18 she tried out for a local model competition and later competed on television in Munich. After winning the contest, she modeled in both Paris and Milan then shot to fame due to her appearances in Sports Illustrated, the first German model to make the cover as well as Victoria’s Secret. She has since graced the covers of numerous magazines.

Beyond her modeling career, Klum has also sought an acting career and has appeared in numerous television shows such as “Sex and the City” as well as “Spin City.” Her acting career has also spanned films including Ella Enchanted and the Life and Death of Peter Sellers. Branching out even further she began to host the reality show “Project Runway” in 2004 and hosted “Germany’s Next Top Model” in 2005.

Klum’s wide range of talents have also included her own clothing lines, one of which is specifically designed for infants, as well as shoe, jewelry and swimsuit lines. Throughout her varied career pursuits she has maintained an interest in painting and several of her artworks have appeared in magazines.

After divorcing hairstylist Ric Pipin, she gave birth to her first child, a girl named Leni named after her grandmother, in 2004. The child’s father is Flavio Briatore; however, Klum is raising Leni with her husband, British musician Seal; whom she married in 2005. Their first child together, a son, was born in 2005.
