    Wallace H. Carothers receives a patent for nylon. The first product made was a nylon-bristled toothbrush followed more famously by women's stockings.
  • February 16th 1923 : Burial chamber of Tutankhamun discovered
    Howard Carter unseals the burial chamber of Egyptian Pharoah Tutankhamun. Tales of the fabulous treasures found in the tomb immediately spread throughtout the world. The supposed "Curse of the Pharoahs" plagued the group, although Carter died years later.

    The entire population of the Netherlands, around eight million people, are sentenced to death by the Roman Catholic church for heresy. This was in response to the rise of Protestantism, even though a large majority retained Catholocism.
  • February 16th 600 : Pope Gregory I decreed "God bless you" as the correct response to a sneeze
    Pope Gregory I decreed that saying "God bless you" was the correct response when somebody sneezed. This was in response to the bubonic plague and the hopes that blessing someone after a sneeze they would not catch the terrible disease.
