Denise Richards: More than a Sex Symbol

Denise Richards was born on February 17, 1971 in Downers Grove, Illinois in the suburbs of Chicago. Her family moved to California when she was 14, where she graduated from El Camino High School.

During the 1990s Denise began appearing in several low-budget films as well as a few television films. Her early career also included appearances in numerous television shows. Her first major starring role would not come until 1997 when she appeared in Starship Troopers. This was quickly followed up with Wild Things in 1998 and the James Bond film The World is Not Enough in 1999. The Bond film brought much attention to Richards and allowed her to continue her acting career with numerous appearances in highly popular programs such as “Friends”, “Spin City” and “Seinfeld.”

Beginning in 2000, her film career continued to take off with appearances in films that made the most of her role as a sex symbol such as Undercover Brother, Scary Movie 3 and Valentine. The December, 2004 issue of “Playboy” magazine featured Richards in the nude.

In 2002, Denise Richards married actor Charlie Sheen, her co-star from Scary Movie 3. The couple later had two daughters, Sam and Lola. Their marriage; however, was rocky and they separated, reconciled and separated again before divorcing in 2006. Their separation and divorce became the subject of much media fodder, during which time it was reported Richards accused Sheen of abuse and obtained a restraining order. After her divorce she was linked romantically with other celebrities including Richie Sambora.
