Ben Affleck and Close Friendships

Ben Affleck was born Benajamin Geza Affleck on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California. His family later relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts and it was there that he first met Matt Damon. Affleck’s long time friendship with his fellow actor has often been highly publicized, a friendship which began when Affleck was just eight and Damon was only ten in Cambridge. At the time the two boys lived only two blocks from one another and were encouraged by their parents in their friendship.

During his childhood Affleck appeared in the PBS series “The Voyage of the Mimi” as well as numerous made for television movies. Beginning in the 1990s he began to appear in several films, including School Ties in 1992 along with Matt Damon. His real break; however, came when he and Damon wrote and starred in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. The film earned critical success and both earned Oscars for Best Original Screenplay. This film was followed up with several other highly successful films including Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Sum of All Fears and Forces of Nature.

Beyond his acting career, Ben Affleck has also often come to the media spotlight for his personal relationships. In 1998 he was romantically linked with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and later in 2002 began dating Jennifer Lopez. This relationship led to a media frenzy with the constant speculation regarding whether they would or would not marry. Eventually, they did break off their relationship, citing the continual media attention as a reason. He later began dating Jennifer Garner, with who he had co-starred in Daredevil. The two were subsequently married in May, 2005 and had their first daughter, Violet Anne Affleck in June of that same year.
