Ashley Judd: Beautiful, Classy, Smart

Ashley Judd was born Ashley Tyler Ciminella on April 19, 1968 in Granada Hills, California, to Naomi Judd and Michael Cimenella, Jr. When she was four years old, her parents divorced and two years later her she, her mother and half-sister Wynona found it necessary to move back to Kentucky, where her mother was raised. By the late 1970’s her mother and half sister had earned success as a country and western duo, The Judds. After high school she attended the University of Kentucky and majored in French and minored in Anthropology, theater and women’s studies as well as art history. Unfortunately, she did not graduate, choosing instead to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. Once in California she attended the Playhouse West in order to study acting. During this time she worked as a waitress in order to support herself.

Her first role came in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” in which she played a Starfleet officer. This was followed up with an appearances in three seasons of the NBC television program, “Sisters.” Her debut film role would not occur until 1992 with the film Kuffs. By 1993 she had landed a starring role in Ruby in Paradise, an independent film. After receiving good reviews for her role in this film she went on to appear in Smoke and Heat in 1995. By the end of the decade she was widely regarded as a leading actress with roles in numerous thrillers, including Kiss the Girls and Double Jeopardy. In 2001 Ashley Judd married Scottish Indy Racing League driver Dario Franchitti.
