Rascal Flatts: Life is a HighwayRascal Flatts, the very successful country music band, consists of members Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney. The band takes their name from a geological formation in Oklahoma. Their first record deal was with Lyric Street Records. Shortly after signing the deal, the group made their debut in 2000. Three years later they achieved notoriety; however, much of it was through controversy related to their music video “I Melt.” The video featured band member Rooney and model Christina Auria as well as some brief nudity. Many people objected to the video and felt it should be banned from CMT. Finally an edited version of the video was released and eventually aired during the daytime hours of CMT. The feature song “I Melt” was released on the band’s second album, Melt. That album proved to contain the first No.1 hit single for the band, “These Days,” which reached the top of Billboard magazine at the end of 2002. In 2006 the band released “Me and My Gang”, which included a new single “What Hurts Most”. Although the song was not original and had initially been recorded by someone else the prior year “Me and My Gang” went on to sell almost ¾ million copies in its first week alone. It then hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 charts and became an extremely successful and best-selling release. The group has also recorded “Bless the Broken Road”, which was nominated for three Grammy awards in 2005. They went on to win the Best Country Song category for the song. In 2006 they recorded “Life is a Highway” for the Disney animated movie “Cars”. |
