Mena Suvari: Truly an American Beauty

Born in 1979, Mena Suvari began her career at the age of 12 when a modeling agency came to her school to give lessons. Wilhelmina modeling agency spotted her at a modeling convention and quickly signed Mena on. By the age of 13, she had her first commercial with Rice-a-Roni. After commuting for a couple of years, Mena Suvari’s parents moved to Los Angeles to help their daughter’s budding career. She made television appearances at the age of 16 on a couple of shows including Boy Meets World and ER.

Mena Suvari is probably best known for her role in the widely popular movies American Beauty and American Pie. She has done a few films that did not do so well such as Loser. Mena has also had roles in Musketeer, Sugar & Spice, American Virgin and Spun among others. Suvari has three movies in post-production for 2006. Mena has also done the voice for the character Aerith Gainsborough on the video game Kingdom Hearts II.

Her personal life raised eyebrows in 2000 when she secretly married Robert Brinkmann, a cinematographer who is 18 years her senior. She had no qualms with the age difference considering that her own parents have a 20 year age difference between them; however, Mena Suvari divorced Brinkmann just five years later and began dating again.

With many scripts coming her way, Mena Suvari will continue to shine even if the next title does not have “American” in the name.
