Meg Ryan: Ever the DarlingBorn Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra in 1961, Meg Ryan changed her name when she began acting. After graduating from high school in 1979, Meg went on to college at New York University to major in journalism. By acting on the side, Meg earned extra money as she worked on her degree. Her first movie role was in Rich and Famous in 1981. The following year she landed the part of Betsy on the soap opera As the World Turns where she stayed from 1982 to 1984. She hit it big in the blockbuster Top Gun in 1986. No one can forget her “take me to bed or lose me forever” line. Meg Ryan was then cast with Dennis Quaid in Innerspace and again in a remake of D.O.A. Apparently, the two stars clicked because the married on Valentine’s Day of 1991, although they only stayed married for ten years divorcing in 1991. The 90’s started bringing in awards for Meg Ryan. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and the BAFTA for the movie When Harry Met Sally. Again she was nominated for the Golden Globe in 1993 for Sleepless in Seattle. Most of her characters are American darling types, but she did part with that image briefly for the role of an alcoholic mother/wife in When a Man Loves a Woman. Her versatility shows in her talented portrayal of either types. |
