    A company called Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering, which would later become Sony, is founded in Japan with only 20 employees. Sony would later become a giant in the world of electronics and music.
  • May 7th 1915 : Sinking of the Lusitania
    In one of the greates maritime disasters ever, German submarine U-20 torpedoes and sinks the RMS Lusitania. 1198 people were killed. The sinking played a major role in the entry of the United States into World War I.
  • May 7th 1896 : Serial killer H.H. Holmes hanged in Philadelphia
    Herman Webster Mudgett, also known as Dr. H. H. Holmes, is hanged in Philadelphia. Regarded as the first American serial killer, he was thought responsible fot the torture and murder of hundreds of guests as his Chicago Hotel.
  • May 7th 558 : The dome of the Hagia Sophia collapses
    The Hagia Sophia, regarded as the greatest example of Byzantine period, is ordered rebuilt by Justinian I after the dome collapsed. Converted to a mosque in 1453, it still intrigues architects to this day.
