    The Golden Gate Bridge, in San Francisco, California, is officially opened by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Not actually present at the ceremony, he pushed a button from his office signaling the start of vehicle traffic over the bridge.
  • May 28th 1937 : Neville Chamberlain becomes Prime Minister
    Neville Chamberlain, the most ill-regarded British Prime Minister of the 20th century, becomes Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. His policy of appeasement won him very few friends and he would be suceeded by Winston Churchill in 1940.
  • May 28th 1930 : Chrysler Building opens
    The word's tallest building until 1931, the Chrysler Building in New York City officially opens. It would remain the tallest building in the world until the building of the Empire State Building.
  • May 28th 1588 : Spanish Armada sets sail
    The Spanish Armada, with 130 ships, sets sail from Lisbon heading for the English Channel. The invasion of England would be unsucessful with the Armada forced to flee home.
