Halle Berry: An American BeautyHalle Berry, an Academy Award winning actress, was born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. A local department store, Halle’s, was the inspiration for her unique first name. Halle, a former fashion model and who has been consistently ranked as one of the sexiest and most beautiful women in the world, is of African-American and Liverpudlian ancestry. Following high school, she attended college, entered and won numerous beauty contests. In addition to acquiring the title of Miss Ohio USA and Miss Teen All-American, she came in first runner up in the 1986 Miss USA contest. By the late 1980’s she had moved to Chicago and begun a modeling career. During this time she also pursued an interest in acting, appearing in local cable productions. After auditioning for a more modern version of the televised series “Charlie’s Angels”, she caught the attention of Aaron Spelling. While the television show never made it on air, she did make it onto the ABC series “Living Dolls” in 1989. When the short-lived show ended she landed her first feature film role in Jungle Fever. This was followed-up with Strictly Business and then the Flintstones movie. She continued to rise to fame in the 1995 television adaptation of Alex Haley’s “Queen: The Story of an American Family”. In 2001 she earned her first Academy Award for Best Actress playing the wife of an executed murderer in Monster’s Ball. In addition to her highly successful film and television career, Halle Berry has also modeled for Revlon cosmetics. |
