Derek Jeter: Mr. Clutch

Derek Jeter was born June 26, 1974 in New Jersey. At the age four his family relocated to Michigan where Jeter made a name for himself on the Kalamazoo Central High School baseball team. After receiving a baseball scholarship to the University of Michigan he attended one semester before being drafted by the New York Yankees. The next four years were spent in the minor leagues while Jeter racked up titles such as Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Best Defensive Shortstop. In 1995 he started off in the Major Leagues with the Yankees. For the next eight years he accumulated a number of impressive accomplishments, many of which occurred during the 2001 World Series. That year he racked up a tenth-inning home run that allowed the Yankees to win Game 4. In 2002 he was named Yankee captain. Throughout his career, Jeter has become well known for his style of play, which has proven to be quite impressive during situations in which his team is in the clutch. Because of this he has earned the nickname Captain Clutch. In addition to playing for the Yankees, Jeter has also played as shortstop on the USA team in the first World Baseball Classic, scoring 5 runs in 6 games with an impressive batting average of .450.

In his spare time Jeter also manages to impressively contribute to charity as well as founding the Turn 2 Foundation, an organization that was founded for the purpose of assisting children and teens to avoid addictions.
