Claudia Schiffer: From Guess? to TV

Claudia Schiffer was born August 25, 1970 in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. As a child growing up in Germany, she aspired to become an attorney, most likely inspired by her father, who was a successful attorney. She began her modeling career at the age of 17 in 1987 after being discovered in a German nightclub which she visited with friends. Within a matter of weeks she made her first appearance in ELLE and then later began modeling for Chanel. In 1989 she appeared on five separate magazine covers and earned a contract modeling for Guess? Jeans. In total, she would go on to appear on more than 500 magazine covers.

While her modeling career reached its peak in the ‘90s, Schiffer has also enjoyed a moderately successful acting career, appearing in such films as Love Actually, Black and White and Richie Rich. In addition, she has appeared as herself in numerous venues including “Catwalk” and such television programs as “Dharma & Greg”, The Howard Stern Radio Show, and “MAD TV” as well as hosting several awards shows. Her other pursuits include a personal exercise video as well as founding Fashion Café with Christy Turlington, Elle MacPhearson and Naomi Campbell. She has also modeled for Revlon Cosmetics.

In addition to her highly public modeling career Claudia Schiffer has also been known for her personal life. For a long period of time she was engaged to magician David Copperfield; however, the couple did not marry. She later married Matthew Vaughn, a film producer.
