  • April 25th 1988 : Ivan the Terrible sentenced to death
    John Demjanuk, the notorious prison guard from the Treblinka extermination camp known as "Ivan the Terrible" is sentenced to death for war crimes in Israel. His sentence was overturned and he was deported to the United States.
  • April 25th 1983 : Pioneer 10 passes Pluto
    Pioneer 10 becomes the first man made object to pass beyond the orbit of Pluto, the furthest planet in the solar system. Launched in 1972, it later passed the outer bounds of the solar system and contact was lost.
  • April 25th 1961 : Integrated circuit patented
    Robert Noyce, who later co-founded Intel, receives a patent for the integrated circuit, or microchip. The integrated circuit is a miniaturized electronic circuit, which led to the advance in computer technology.
  • April 25th 1792 : Guillotine first used
    Nicolas J Pelletier, a Highwayman, became the first person to be executed by the guillotine. Nothing is known of Pelletier. Highwayman is the term used to describe criminals who robbed people along public highways.

    Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is published. It is a fictional autobiography of an English castaway who spends 28 years on a remote island before being rescued.
